The Istituto di Astrofisica Spaziale e Fisica Cosmica di Palermo" (IASF Palermo) , founded by Livio Scarsi, is part of the "National Institute of Astrophysics", INAF. The scientific activities at IASF Palermo concern experimental and observational astronomy in the X-ray and Gamma-ray energy bands, high energy cosmic rays, design and realization of scientific instrumentation (telescopes) for space missions (satellites,stratospheric balloons) and ground-based observatories, researches in methods and methodologies for images and data analysis.

Since January 2005, IASF Palermo is the new name for the Istituto di Fisica Cosmica con Applicazioni all'Informatica" (IFCAI).
